3 BASIC STEPS TO BECOMING A REAL ESTATE AGENT
Have a cash reserve on hand
You need a bit of cash before you start because chances are good you won’t make a lot of commissions your first year of real estate. Being a real estate agent can be an avenue to a good living without the kind of capital needed to start other businesses. Still, you need to have something to live on (enough to cover six months of living expenses).
In addition, you need to pay business costs such as broker fees, insurance, lockbox rentals, business cards and buying real estate signs, advertising etc
Putting your “A” game on
Being a real estate agent is not a cushy type of job and not a quick-rich scheme. You will need to have a never give up attitude and you will need to work long hours with not a lot of weekends to yourself. Real estate agents typically work when other people don’t..the good ones anyways.
New agents need to put at least 40 to 60 hours a week into getting their business going ...most people don’t think know how much work it actually takes.
Do your homework
Before you can be a REALTOR® and sell real estate, you'll need to get licensed .
There is a four-step licensing process in Alberta: Complete the education steps approved by RECA and provided by AREA. You can contact them directly for more information on fees and courses.
